Over the last 15 years the river has averaged some 625 salmon per year. This entails a catch of nearly 1.4 fish per rod, per day, at an average weight of 7.0 lbs. So it shouldn't come as a surprise that the river is justly counted among the ten best salmon fishing waters in Iceland.
 
Although the season lasts from mid-June to mid-September, the best weeks generally lie between the early July and end-August. The only kinds of bait allowed are flies and worms.
